Dalehead Court Cottages & Location

Unique village setting in The Peak District's most historic village. Local shops, 17th Century Inn, etc., are all within two minutes walk. Dalehead Court is a special kind of place: a cobbled courtyard with garden and water feature with two Victorian houses, and a 17th century barn conversion, each singular in character. The courtyard is sheltered by a rock cliff and has ample private parking - which is unusual: most peak village cottages have little space, and parking is a problem. Externally, restoration work has been carefully blended into its surroundings; National Trust craftsmen have been used to produce work of a high standard. Internally: Quality furnishings... luxurious bathrooms... fitted kitchens with integral appliances... traditional fireplaces... full central heating... Stereo-TV / video / hi-fi... Prices includes central heating and electricity.

Eyam Village - Church & Village green with stocks

Dalehead Court Cottages

Eyam is Derbyshire's most famous historic village best known because of The Plague of 1665. (When the Black Death struck Eyam, the villagers quarantined themselves within the village for two years to prevent it spreading. They paid dearly for their self-sacrifice - half the population died - but the plague touched no other part of Derbyshire). There is however more to Eyam than the story of the plague: it's a beautiful village with ancient church, even-more-ancient Celtic cross (1,300 years old), village green with stocks, and sheep roast spit. Eyam Hall, one of the most attractive family houses in Derbyshire open to the public, and plague cottages are all preserved as they were in 1665.

Today Eyam is a small, thriving community and the square is the heart of the village. Within two minutes walk you will find The Miners Arms Inn & Restaurant, - reputably haunted and with a rich and varied history. There is a grocers, butchers, post office and tearoom all just round the corner. Eyam is at the centre of the White Peak, with its lovely villages, and is well served by public transport to Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock. You can combine walks with public transport so as to 'walk-and-ride-back'. (Just one example - a walk via Monsal Dale and Ashford to Bakewell market with the option of a bus home makes a memorable day out).
